The Patrol Division is the backbone of the department. Patrol is responsible for providing 24/7 services to the citizens of Jackson. Some of those services include, but are not limited to:
Handling the initial response to calls for service
Crime Prevention
Problem Solving
Conflict Resolution
Preventive Patrol
Protection of Live and Property
Apprehension of Offenders
Traffic Enforcement
Investigating Crimes
Investigating Traffic Accidents
Prompt and Accurate Reporting of Incidents
Execution of Arrest Warrants, Search Warrants, and Subpoenas
Identifying quality of life issues such as Health and Sanitation, Code Violations, Building Code Violations, Littering, and Loud Noise Violations
Abandoned Vehicles and Structures
Aiding distressed motorists and others in need
The city is divided into two patrol districts designated as north and south. Each district will have a Captain designated a Patrol Division District Commander. Two Lieutenants are assigned to each shift and serve as Shift Commanders. Shift Commanders direct police operations in their respective Districts for their shifts.
Shift Commanders report directly to the Patrol Division Commander
The Patrol Division Commanders are responsible for all police activities in their assigned Districts, including crime prevention and solution. They are responsible for tracking crimes, identifying problems in their districts, developing and implementing solutions, and coordinating officer's efforts through the Shift Commander and district Sergeants.
