Jackson, Tenn. -- The AARP Community Challenge Grant Check Presentation was held Thursday, September 24, 2020, in city hall and virtually via GoToMeeting.

The City of Jackson, TN was awarded $35,500 in grant money. Our city was one of only 184 grantees selected from across all 50 states, Washington D.C, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

With this “quick-action” grant we will use it to improve the city’s transportation accessibility and communications by creating a smartphone app that provides real-time information about public buses.

Speakers included:
Matthew Marshall, CEO of United Way of West TN
Kyle Spurgeon, President and CEO of the Jackson Chamber
Travis Franklin, General Manager of Jackson Transit Authority
Scott Conger, Mayor of Jackson, TN
AARP Representatives Rebecca Kelly and Mike Kulik

About the Community Challenge:
The Community Challenge funds innovative projects that inspire change in areas such as transportation, public spaces, housing, smart cities, civic engagement, coronavirus response and more.

It’s all part of AARP’s nationwide work on livable communities, which supports the efforts of neighborhoods, towns, cities and counties across the country to become great places for all residents. AARP believes that communities should provide safe, walkable streets; affordable and accessible housing and transportation options; access to needed services; and opportunities for residents to participate in community life.
