Boards and Commissions

The City of Jackson, TN invites interested members of the community to participate in the process of City Government by serving on one of several Boards and Commissions. All positions are voluntary and are appointed by the Mayor and approved by the City Council. The time commitment for each board or commission varies, with some meeting on a regular schedule, while others meet on an as needed basis. Additional time obligations may include pre-meeting preparation or subcommittee attendance. Once appointed, attendance at regularly scheduled meetings is critical.

Boards and Commissions are separated into six categories:

Planning: Board of Zoning Appeals, Jackson Municipal Regional Planning Commission, Jackson Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA), and Jackson Madison County Historic Zoning Commission

Development Boards: Industrial Development Board (IDB), Jackson Downtown Revenue Finance Corporation

Building and Codes: Code Advisory and Appeals, Environmental Advisory and Appeals, Housing Board of Adjustments and Appeals

Operations: Audit Committee, Beer Permit Board, Budget Committee, Ethics Committee

Quality of Life: Jackson Recreation and Parks Advisory Board, Public Art Commission, Commission on Aging, Ned McWherter West TN Cultural Arts Center Board, Mayor's Youth Council, Keep Jackson Beautiful Commission, Legends Music Museum Advisory Board, Amphitheater Advisory Board, Taxi Board, City Tree Board, Housing Commission

Other (The City of Jackson is not responsible for the records of the following boards): Jackson Madison County Education Foundation, Jackson Madison County Library Board of Trustees, Jackson Energy Authority, Airport Authority, West Tennessee Healthcare, Jackson Housing Authority, Health, Education, and Housing Facilities (JHA), Jackson Transit Authority, Vicious Dog Committee, Equalization Board, Community Economic Development, Municipal Solid Waste Regional Planning Board
