Keep Jackson Beautiful Joins National Movement: The “Greatest American Cleanup” Kicks Off in Jackson
Posted on 03/03/2026

Jackson, Tenn. – As Tennessee prepares to celebrate the nation’s upcoming 250th anniversary, Keep Jackson Beautiful (KJB) is calling on local residents to roll up their sleeves. In coordination with Keep Tennessee Beautiful (KTnB) and Keep America Beautiful, Jackson is officially launching its participation in the Greatest American Cleanup, the country’s largest annual community improvement program.

The initiative arrives as Governor Bill Lee once again designates March as Keep Tennessee Beautiful Month. This year’s efforts carry extra weight, serving as the kickoff for a multi-year campaign leading up to July 4, 2026—America’s semiquincentennial.

Cleaning the Hub City

For Jackson, this isn't just about picking up litter; it’s about economic and civic vitality. A clean, litter-free city is a magnet for new businesses and visitors while fostering a deeper sense of home for those who live here.

“The Greatest American Cleanup is a chance for our schools, businesses, and neighborhoods to unite,” said City of Jackson, TN Neighborhood Specialist and KJB Coordinator Shantell Hoefling. “When we invest in a greener, more beautiful Jackson, we are investing in our own quality of life and the future of the Hub City.”

Statewide Momentum, Local Impact

The regional momentum begins on March 12 at Beale Street Landing in Memphis, where KTnB will host a rally and awards luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. CDT. This event will honor leaders in litter prevention and award scholarships to nine outstanding high school seniors across the state who demonstrate a commitment to environmental stewardship.

Following the rally, a community-wide cleanup will take place at Robert Church Park in Memphis on March 13 from 9 to 11 a.m. CDT, serving as the official spark for local efforts across West Tennessee.

How Jackson Can Get Involved

Keep Jackson Beautiful encourages all residents to take the Greatest American Cleanup Community Pledge. Whether it is a corporate beautification day, a neighborhood park cleanup, or a school recycling drive, every action contributes to the goal of a cleaner Tennessee by 2026.

“We’re excited to host a volunteer rally to launch Keep Tennessee Beautiful Month and inspire the citizens of Tennessee to take the Greatest American Cleanup Community Pledge,” Executive Director Missy Marshall, Keep Tennessee Beautiful, said. “I want to thank Gov. Lee for continuing to support our organization. This year, especially, we are encouraging all our citizens to celebrate the power of partnership, community pride, and environmental stewardship leading up to America’s 250th.”
