What’s happening?
Every 5 years at minimum, the City is required to review and update its Recreation and Parks Master Plan. The City’s Recreation and Parks Department is working with the A2H architecture and engineering firm to update our One Jackson Recreation and Parks Master Plan and to create an overall redesign of Muse Park.
This update will provide an in-depth overview of the entire recreation and parks system, including parks, facilities, and programming.
What is a comprehensive plan?
The One Jackson Recreation and Parks Master Plan, adopted in 2018, describes the community's recreation and parks system. It covers a community needs assessment, existing conditions analysis, parks and open space plan, recreation and facilities plan, and trails plan. The Plan is utilized by the department in budgeting for capital improvements, maintenance, and seeking grant funding opportunities from partners such as Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation.
What role does the City play in development?
The Recreation and Parks Master Plan is used in several meaningful ways. It provides a shared vision of our future recreation and parks system It informs the department about needs within the community and trends within recreation and park systems. It develops short-, mid-, and long-term goals for the department. It also provides policy direction and vision for the departments’ programs and budgets.
How to get involved?
Over the coming months, the City of Jackson Recreation and Parks Department, along with A2H, will host public input meetings open to residents to provide feedback on the overall system plan. There is also a survey that citizens of Jackson, as well as users of the parks system, are invited to complete.
